Lighthouse Market Day 10/15 9-4p

On Saturday, October 15, 2011, the City of Port Isabel and the Port Isabel Museums will be hosting their annual Lighthouse Market Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Lighthouse grounds.

Vendors on the Lighthouse Square will be offering a variety of food, antiques, arts & crafts, art and more. For vendor information, click here.

Special admission prices to museums and lighthouse! The Port Isabel Historical Museum and the Treasures of the Gulf Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will have a special admission price of $1.00 for each site. The Lighthouse will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. also with a special admission price of $1.00. Come join in the fun, enjoy historic Port Isabel during Lighthouse Market Day.

Researching & Writing about Local History by Steve Hathcock

The Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre Museum Foundation are proud to present its “Telling Our Stories” Series of 2011 on Thursday, September 29, at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum, 317 East Railroad Ave at 6:30pm. This month’s topic will be on “Researching & Writing about Local History”.

Steve Hathcock, a historian and locksmith, will present “Researching & Writing about Local History”. Mr. Hathcock is a founding member of the Historical Foundation, the chairman of the South Padre Island Historical Preservation Board and also serves as a board member with the Cameron County Historical Commission. He has written about South Texas history for the past 25 years and along with his work, he has published three books and is working on a fourth. “Telling Our Stories” is an educational program aimed to preserve the heritage of the City of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre area. Our goals are to preserve and educate out local and natural history through presentations and exhibits. The program is co-sponsored by the Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre Museum Foundation. “Telling Our Stories” is presented on the last Thursday of each month from January through September at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum. Admission is FREE.
