“Old Indio Last of the Karankawa”
The Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre Museum Foundation are proud to
present its “Telling Our Stories” Series of 2010 on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at
6:00 pm in the Treasures of the Gulf Museum, 317 E. Railroad Ave.
Steve Hathcock, local historian and locksmith, will present “Old Indio Last of
the Karankawa”, the history of the last remaining Karankawa Indians of Padre
Island. Mr. Hathcock, a founding member of the Historical Foundation, Chairman
of the South Padre Island Historical Preservation Board, also serves as a board
member with the Cameron County Historical Commission. He has written about South
Texas history for the past 25 years, and along with his work, has completed and
published four books. Mr. Hathcock latest book release titled “Old Indio Last of
the Karankawa” documents the Native Americans of Padre Island and contains
several short stories. After the presentation, Mr. Hathcock be available to sign
his his books or to meet and greet attendees.
The Museums of Port Isabel welcomes all visitors and locals to attend this FREE
presentation. Drinks and refreshments will be served.
