The Texas International Fishing Tournament dates back to 1934 and introduced anglers across the nation to the outstanding sportfishing opportunities in both bay and offshore waters! It is one of the largest and oldest saltwater tournaments on the Texas Gulf coast and ranked in the world’s top 10 billfish tournaments. Here’s a look at kids at play in TIFT…54 years ago in 1961!

Visit the Port Isabel Historical Museum to learn more about the history of TIFT! Also on display is the collection of TIFT perpetual trophies including an original trophy from 1934.

The Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre Museum Foundation are proud to present its “Telling Our Stories” Series of 2015 on Thursday, July 23, at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum at 7pm. (317 E. Railroad Ave.)

Topic: A Video Presentation on the History of T.I.F.T. by Ms. Barbara (Bobbie) Wells.

“Telling Our Stories” is an educational program aimed to preserving the heritage of the City of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre area. Our goals are to preserve and educate our local and natural history through presentations and exhibits. The program is co-sponsored by the Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Museum Foundation. “Telling Our Stories” is presented on the fourth (4Th) Thursday of each month from January through September at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum. Admission is FREE.

A look back at the Pavilion or Civic Center, the Island’s first civic center, which was site to so many memories from movies to concerts, dances, art shows and parties! Port Isabel Lighthouse Summer Hours start on Monday, June 1.

  • Sunday – Thursday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Regular hours (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.): will resume September 1.
  • Tickets can be purchased on site.
