The 8th Annual Pachanga in the Park will be held at the Laguna Madre Park, on Port Road, Saturday, September 30, from 6 – 11 p.m. Pachanga in the Park will feature live music by LOS GARCIA BROS. and Juan Garza y Los Ultimos, lots of great local food vendors, rides and games and contests. No admission charge. Family friendly.

Museums of Port Isabel Oral History “Road Hard – Horse Racing in the Valley”

 

The Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre Museum Foundation are proud to present its “Telling Our Stories” Series of 2018 on Thursday, August 23rd, at 7pm @ the Treasures of the Gulf Museum, 308 East Railroad Ave.

Manuel Hinojosa has spent the last 25 years documenting the Ancient Camino Real, starting in Guanajuato, Mexico and crossing into Texas at Eagle pass to the battle grounds of San Jacinto.  At San Jacinto, he was part of the 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2008 archaeological teams funded by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department grants to dig up battlefield artifacts that helped interpret the last battle for Texas Independence.

At the 2009 Battle San Jacinto Symposium, he was a feature speaker, presenting findings of the latest Archaeological investigation of the battle site.  He also participated in 2001 in the archaeology investigation at the Fannin Battlefield State Historic Park and various archaeological surveys at the Palo Alto Battlefield National Historic Park.  Mr. Hinojosa appeared in the Discovery Channel’s hour long documentary “Unsolved History, The Alamo.”

Mr. Hinojosa FAIA currently resides in Port Isabel, Texas.  He earned his B.A. in Art at Pam American University and degree in Architecture at the University of Southwestern Louisiana.  Manuel recently advanced to Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and is currently a partner with ROFA Architects in McAllen.

Please join us for an entertaining evening with. Mr, Hinojosa who will be giving us a presentation on the “Road Hard – Horse Racing in the Valley”.   All locals and visitors are welcomed to attend this free presentation. Complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be provided.

‘Telling Our Stories” is an educational program aimed to preserving the heritage of the City of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre area. Our goals are to preserve and educate our local and natural history through presentations and exhibits. The program is co-sponsored by the Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Museum Foundation. “Telling Our Stories” is presented on the fourth (4Th) Thursday of each month from January through September at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum. Admission is FREE.
